This thermally modified/torrified maple infused with resin is an awesome substitute to Gabon Ebony.
Driven by an eco-conscious mission, Thermalwood Canada addressed the industry’s need for an ebony substitute. This led to Obsidian Ebony, crafted via thermal modification and monomer infusion.
With ebony on the endangered species list, the time was right to create a real wood alternative using roasted maple and a few other things.

Available blanks:
Guitar blank - 555 x 70 x 8mm
Bass blank - 710 x 70 x 8mm

Visual Representation:
Please note that the images of Obsidian Ebony showcase the product with a light application of mineral oil to enhance its appearance. The product you receive in its unfinished state may appear slightly lighter and less black until treated. Applying a finish, such as oil or varnish, will bring out its deeper, richer tones.

Natural Characteristics:
Obsidian Ebony is a natural ebony alternative and, as such, may exhibit slight variations in color, texture, and grain. These unique characteristics are inherent to the material and contribute to its distinct aesthetic appeal.

Odor Notice:
Upon receiving Obsidian Ebony, you may notice a faint, natural scent from the material. This is a normal characteristic of the product and is entirely non-toxic. The odor typically dissipates over time and does not affect the quality or safety of the material.

No Liability for Misrepresentation:
Due to differences in screen settings and individual perceptions, there may be slight variations in color and appearance. For best results, follow recommended finishing practices to achieve the desired look.

To save you some time, we offer multiple choices of customization you can choose from, such as calibration, pre-radiusing and compound radiusing.
Radiusing operations are CNC made and don't provide a ready-to-use product.

The pictures presented here work as an example, as wood is never the same and can't be replicated.

DISCLAIMER:
Bass fretboards cannot be shipped through the CTT shipping option due to their length (over 60cm).
Please keep this in mind when adding to cart and during checkout, otherwise you'll be notified in order to change the shipping option to either UPS options - Standard or Express.
